New York Fashion Week is in full swing and I am on my couch in Stockholm feeling pretty pregnant. Me and my belly are sitting this season out, we’re sparing everyone the glorious site that is me waddling backstage from show to show. I just started to embrace the fall weather but spying all the SS16 beauty looks that have taken over my social media have left me feeling lovesick for spring.
Queen DVF turned to makeup guru Pat McGrath to design the look for her SS16 show. As per usual DVF’s cast of characters included supermodel elite and runway starlets like Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn and the Hadid sisters. This season her girls were the epitome of 70’s glamour, adorned with bright-green iridescent eyes. The shimmery aquamarine hue is a universally flattering shade that stunned on everyone and looked tropical chic. McGrath rimmed the top and bottom lashes with the bold pigment before painting the models’ eyelids and lower lashes with a glossy seafoam green. A heavy coating of mascara was applied as a finishing touch. The look was inspired by two photographs; a shot by Steven Meisel and a snap of von Furstenberg at the opening party for Studio 54. This retro throwback has some serious mermaid vibes I can’t get enough of. It is a nod to a care-free time and also the first time von Furstenberg wore her hair curly. Her wild retro curls were replicated for the show by Orlando Pita. Pita embraced volume and texture giving each model a slightly unique version of fuzzy disco curls.
